One of the key characteristics of a simpler business is the making of decisions at the level in the business where the problem occurs. I'd like to have a dollar for every time I have heard an owner or a manager say something like "I wish my people would come to me with solutions rather than problems!"

The purpose of the Now-Where-How problem solving approach is to consistently make good decisions about any problem that confronts you. It can be used at the highest managerial level for problems such as developing effective strategy and it is also highly effective for regular operational improvement decisions by people working in production or sales or other parts of the business. It is most generally used where there is a need to solve the problem as a small group or team, but it will also improve the decision-making of individuals as well.
